Animals: Rescue + Rehabilitate

  • Carolina Basset Hound Rescue (CBHR) is a volunteer-staffed non-profit organization whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome unwanted basset hounds in North Carolina and South Carolina. CBHR is a fully recognized 501(c)3 organization.

Chapter 5 of the 2015 State Wildlife Action Plan lists education and outreach efforts as one of the fundamental strategies needing implementation in South Carolina to benefit priority wildlife species and their habitats. In particular, SCDNR and its partners should "promote volunteer participation, both in education and outreach programs as well as in data collection. [High priority]."

  • The Charleston Ocean Racing Association The Charleston Ocean Racing Association (CORA) was formed in 1967, operating as a volunteer, non-profit organization that endeavors to foster a passion for sailing. Its mission is to promote, organize, and conduct competitive sailboat racing year round in Charleston’s harbor and offshore waters as a premiere racing destination in the Southeast. It aims to advocate and support a wide spectrum of racing activities with local yacht clubs and to assist boat owners to obtain competent member crew.

Its residents are hardworking people who care about their families, one another, and their community.

Community Action Group for Encouragement is a non-profit organization created to improve the quality of life in the Seven and Six Mile Communities located in Mount Pleasant, SC.  However, this geographic area does not represent the limitations of our involvement.   Members of the organization recognize that neighboring communities face the same issues that affect the Six and Seven Mile Communities.   • Charleston's Men's Chorus was founded in 1990 when Alfred Pinckney convinced some fellow Rotarians and their friends there was a place in the Lowcountry arts community for the distinctive harmonies of a male chorus. Now an independent nonprofit organization, it has grown steadily and has about 65 members. The chorus is best known for its annual Christmas Concert held at the Sottile Theatre, and performances in Piccolo Spoleto, especially the Memorial Day concert, enthusiastically received by a full house at St. Philip’s Church.
