The Bridge Spot Skate Park has been hosting suicide prevention benefits for the past few years in honor of local skate legend Ben Bertauski. Bertauski passed away on April 30, 2023, after battling with mental and emotional distress. Since then, family, friends and other skaters who knew Ben have worked together to raise money toward suicide prevention and support those struggling with substance abuse and addiction. Under the chant "Ben is here," their cause has garnered almost $20,000 in donations for Ben's Friends and other local charities. This year, after a few messages on social media, the event coordinators were able to get a hold of Margera, who accepted the opportunity to support their skate benefit. He will be bringing a few tricks of the trade along with him, after practicing with friend and mentor Tony Hawk.

After the skate show, the party will move on over to the Rickhouse at Cannon Distillery, 1734 Signal Point Road, James Island. From 8-10 p.m., Margera will be available for skateboard signings as well an art sale, with proceeds donated to suicide prevention. Various punk rock and metal bands will be performing at both locations, along with a slew of local food and drink vendors to fuel the crowds.

For those looking to register, riders can head over to Parrot Surf Shop, 811 Coleman Blvd., Mount Pleasant and sign up for $20 to participate in this skating event alongside Margera himself.

All of the funds raised will be distributed across local suicide prevention charities, Pet Helpers (a personal favorite of the event coordinators) and to local skater families struggling with mental illness.” - Charleston Scene, Post & Courier March 2025
