  • Charleston Warriors SLED HOCKEY veterans are provided opportunities due to their disabilities to participate in sled hockey and promote the development of excellence in hockey, which is open to players with all physical and/or cognitive disabilities.

    Free outdoor programs for U.S. active-duty military, veterans, law enforcement officers, first responders and their families.

  • Hoofprints in the Sand offers a comprehensive 16-32 weekly therapy program integrating trauma-focused yoga, equine-assisted activities, and therapeutic techniques such as CBT and ACT. Each session begins with objective measures and reflections, followed by personalized interventions with horses that address communication, engagement, assertiveness, focus, responsibility, empathy, calmness, and planning. This multi-faceted approach aims to transition participants from a trauma-driven mindset to a healthier, more balanced state, enhancing their overall well-being and life skills.

  • Lowcountry Center for Veterans Research's (LCVR) mission is to advance discovery and innovation through research initiatives dedicated to improving the overall health and well-being of veterans living in the lowcountry.

    ​​This program encompasses studies in medical research, health services research, and clinical trials. Our team of nationally and internationally recognized physicians and scientists is committed to advancing the understanding of disease causes and improving treatment methods

  • Lowcountry Veterans | Provides transitional housing, food, and transportation services + volunteer, educational, and employment opportunities to unhoused US military veterans.

  • Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Charleston provides several programs and services to assist active duty and retired Sailors, Marines and their families in financial need.

  • Operation Vet Fit | Provides mental health care for combat veterans, helps them access benefits and programs, and provides camaraderie-based motivational activities and events.

  • Palmetto Military Support Group | Connects the community with military service members through volunteering, fundraising, engagement, and education.

  • Project Healing Waters

    Project Healing Waters (PHW) serves disabled Veterans through the healing power of fly fishing and all associated activities. This includes core program activities: fly tying, rod building, casting, fly fishing education, and outings. With over 180 programs across the country, the Charleston, SC program serves 125 disabled Veteran participants in total. Ninety-seven participants live in Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester, and Georgetown Counties

    The Red Cross helps members of the military, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to, the challenges of military service.

    • Volunteers provide home comforts and critical services on bases and in military hospitals around the world

  • RJ’s Mission Foundation | This group serves those who serve us through awareness, advocacy, and support.

  • Second Chance Jobs HVRP

    Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program

    HVRP provides services to assist in reintegrating homeless veterans into meaningful employment within the labor force. Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP) is an employment-focused competitive Federal grant program, providing assistance to veterans experiencing homelessness to reach their full employment potential and obtain high-quality career outcomes.

    HVRP supports veteran job seekers as they confront and overcome the barriers that prevent them from finding and retaining employment.

  • She's the Veteran works with female veterans to provide a supportive community + spearhead health and mental health research efforts.

  • Soldiers Angels Charleston provides aid, comfort, and resources to the Military, Veterans, and their families and are dedicated to serving our past and present heroes in whatever way we can.  We have many opportunities available for almost anyone. Volunteer opportunities can range from a few hours a month to as frequent as your schedule allows.

  • Tricounty Veterans Support is a network of many agencies committed to implementing a planned, coordinated community response to the varied needs of our veterans to include emergency relief, housing, employment, education, spiritual support and others as well as identifying and resolving gaps in services and resources to support our local veterans and families in crisis.

  • Vantage Point Foundation | Helps veterans transition to civilian life through multi-day courses.

  • Veterans on Deck

    The focus of this nonprofit program is to prevent and treat PTSD symptoms through sailing.

  • Veterans Administration Healthcare

    In the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System, our health care teams are experienced and guided by the needs of Veterans, their families, and caregivers. Find a health facility near you, and manage your health online.

  • Tunnels to Towers

    On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM, Tunnel to Towers and local officials hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking for its new Veterans Village in North Charleston.

    The Foundation acquired a former hotel at 2450 Prospect Drive to renovate and build new apartment housing for homeless veterans.

    Once completed, the property will house 98 veterans and feature on-site support services. This will include job training, benefits assistance, education assistance, financial budget management, legal advocacy, medical care access, mental health support and PTSD counseling, and addiction treatment.

  • The Veterans Sea Kayak Resilience Training (V-SKRT) is offered to veterans in the Charleston area twice a year. Over the course of this program, participants take part in six full-day expeditions into saltwater and blackwater ecosystems to learn how to sea kayak.

  • Warrior Surf Foundation is a nonprofit that provides surf therapy, yoga, and community to veterans with mental health challenges.

  • Wounded Nature - Working Veterans

    Wounded Nature-Working Veterans was founded by veterans and provides veterans, boaters and community volunteers, the opportunity to make a real environmental difference.

  • Tri county Crisis Stabilization Center (TCSC) is a 10 bed, voluntary, adult crisis unit serving Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties. This unit is designed to provide an urgent treatment option for individuals experiencing psychiatric symptoms which may require medication adjustments and/or counseling support. Historically, individuals experiencing these needs would go to the local hospital emergency departments (EDs) or jail. TCSC provides an alternative treatment option with a goal of diverting individuals from unnecessary ED visits or jail when possible.

  • ECCO Dental Services East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) provides a range of dental procedures and services for uninsured adults each year – all at no cost to the patient. Through our partnership with the MUSC College of Dental Medicine and Trident Technical College of Dental Hygiene, we are able to provide preventative and restorative care, as well as extractions through our Extraction Clinic. Last year, we provided more than $532,000 worth of dental care to nearly 700 neighbors.

  • The MEDI Community Resource Center Directory for Community Services: Food, Housing, Goods, Transit, Health, Money, Care, Education, Work, Legal.

    Promoting Health Equity Through Patient- Centered Neighborhoods

    The Medi is dedicated to helping community-based organizations develop a culture of collaboration through education and the use of technology.

    The goal of The Medi is to connect communities to existing services that include healthcare and social services, using technology to exchange, track and manage information.

    This exchange is not only efficient but more importantly is safer, timelier, effective, equitable, and person-centered.

  • Friends of the Fisher House

    Having family nearby greatly benefits patients battling illness or injury.

    Fisher House Charleston is all about giving back to our patriots that have secured our freedom. We make sure the families of our heroes are close when they are being treated at
    Charleston’s Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.
